Prepping your skin (and wellbeing) for the cooler months

It’s that time of year again.

The temperature starts to drop, we add on a few extra layers to wear in the morning and we spend a little more time indoors – as the winter season begins to set in.

While there are a few negatives to the cooler months (less sunshine, darker days), there are also a few positives: cozy nights in, winter knits, nourishing wintery meals, rainy days spent relaxing…. The list goes on.

When it comes to our skin and wellbeing. There’s things to consider as the season changes. We’ve collated a list of our top 5 tips to prep your skin and your wellbeing for the cooler months.

  1. Up the exfoliation

Buff away dry, flaky skin cells with a good quality exfoliator. When the temperature drops, our skin becomes more prone to being dry and dull. Try adding a physical or chemical exfoliant to your weekly routine, or pop into one of our award-winning day spas and let us take care of it for you with a luxurious facial, or body scrub.

  1. Up the vitamin C

Anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and packed with antioxidants for optimum health! Vitamin C is a go-to for us when it comes to looking after our health. Take it as a supplement, enjoy fruit rich in Vitamin C & apply it to your skin! It’s a wonder product to brighten your mood and your skin. We can’t get enough of it.

  1. Create your own wellness tonic

It’s time to up the ante on ingredients that add nourishment. Stock the kitchen cupboard full of New Zealand Manuka Honey, Fresh Lemon & potent booters like ginger and turmeric to provide extra immune defence. Our favourite winter brew is a mix of hot water, honey, fresh ginger and turmeric. Can’t beat it.

  1. Up your treatment products and moisturising products

In the cooler months we’re always looking out for ways to add extra nourishment to our skin. Have you heard of our new fave, Dewluxe? It isn’t just a face oil – it’s a lightweight, blend of occlusive argan and squalene, synced together to lock in moisture, replenish protective barrier lipids and deliver the most natural dew you’ve ever seen. Pop it on over your moisturiser if you feel you need that extra bit of nourishment. Give it a go – you won’t regret it!

  1. Try an infrared sauna

There’s something ultra-decadent about stepping into a warm infra-red sauna in the cooler months. Not only is it relaxing, it works wonders for your overall wellbeing (and glowing skin) too. Some of the benefits of Infra-red saunas include: relieving inflammation and stiffness but increase blood circulation and helping muscles to recover faster as a result. You can also reap the benefits of better sleep, clear skin and detoxification. Our Albany spa has its very own Infrared sauna. Book in for a session or add it on to your next treatment!
